Tonight we begin a series of free webinars focusing on the intersection of education and gaming. We thank Steve Hargadon for his encouragement after participating in his Future of Education series with our Computer Games as Educational Tools session.
If you're looking for new ideas to get tweens excited about science and math, then this event, Drawing Lesson Plans from Gaming, Case Study: Caduceus, is especially for you. Hosted over at LearnCentral, sponsored by Elluminate, it's scheduled for 5pm PST / 8pm EST / 12am GMT today. You can login here.
And, if you're interested in our Teacher Professional Learning Community, this will be a good opportunity to learn more about our philosophy towards the use of games in school.
From the session description:
This first event ... will look at Caduceus, an online learning game built as part of Children's Hospital Boston's "Generation Cures" initiative. Teacher support materials are now available, and can provide a case example for how lesson plans and learning activities can be drawn from gaming.
The Generation Cures site, including its Educators page, has much more info:
Set in familiar and fantastic worlds, Zebrafish our original web story and Caduceus, our multi-faceted adventure game, use humor and a quirky cast of characters to engage kids in social lessons about character development and giving. Equally important, these features also introduce students to concepts of math and scientific inquiry integral to the fascinating world of medical research. Finally, our Kid Vids bring both social and science messages home through "behind the scenes" interviews with real kids who have survived illnesses.
Tonight's webinar will feature Alex Chisholm, LGN's executive director and Generation Cures' executive producer. If you'd like to check out Caduceus before tonight's webinar, you can try it right here.
We hope to see you tonight!
