It wasn't until this afternoon that I learned today, Oct 15, is the day to celebrate Creative Commons Awareness. Now that I know, I certainly can't let the opportunity to highlight Creative Commons pass by.
Did you know Creative Commons includes ccLearn?
ccLearn is a division of Creative Commons which is dedicated to realizing the full potential of the Internet to support open learning and open educational resources (OER). Our mission is to minimize barriers to sharing and reuse of educational materials — legal barriers, technical barriers, and social barriers.
Did you know Creative Commons is an affiliate of the OpenCourseWare Consortium?
The OpenCourseWare Consortium is a collaboration of more than 200 higher education institutions and associated organizations from around the world creating a broad and deep body of open educational content using a shared model.
One of the suggested ways to raise awareness today is to share something licensed under Creative Commons, like the course materials for CMS.998 / CMS.600 Videogame Theory and Analysis – available through MIT OpenCourseWare with an Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 United States license.
The course was taught as "an introduction to the interdisciplinary study of commercial videogames as texts, examining their cultural, educational, and social functions in contemporary settings" by Dr. Alice Robison in Fall 2006. [Note: course readings include LGN board members' writings.]
Changing gears, what potential opportunities do you see for CC-licensed content to help spark greater levels of innovation in developing new learning games and extending existing ones?
